Are you smoke ?

 About 800 million people around the world want to quit smoking. But it seems that it is not so easy. Smoking causes strong physical and mental dependence.

According to experts, when a person stops smoking, the following processes occur in his body:

  • Heart rate slows down only 20 minutes after the last cigarette;
  • Within 12 hours, the amount of carbon monoxide in the blood drops to a normal level;
  • Within 2-12 weeks, blood circulation and lung function will improve;
  • Cough and shortness of breath gradually disappear within 1-9 months;
  • After 5-15 years, the risk of stroke is reduced to a level similar to that of a non-smoker;
  • In 10 years, the risk of developing lung cancer is reduced by about half;
  • Within 15 years, the risk of developing heart disease drops to the level of a non-smoker.

Cancer is the cause of 17 types of cancer. Among them, 98 percent are esophagus or throat cancer; 96 percent — lung cancer; 30 percent — other types of cancer; 75 percent — chronic bronchitis and pulmonary emphysema; 25 percent — heart-ischemic diseases; 20% of all deaths related to heart disease are caused by tobacco use.

According to WHO statistics:

  1. Half of the smokers will die because of this disease;
  2. Mmore than 8 million people die annually from diseases related to tobacco use;
  3. More than 7 million of these deaths are directly caused by smoking, and about 1.2 million are caused by exposure to tobacco smoke among non-smokers, that is, passive smokers;
  4. More than 80 percent of the world's 1.3 billion people live in low- and middle-income countries;
  5. In 2020, 22.3% of the world's population, in particular, 36.7% of men and 7.8% of women, used tobacco. Today, these numbers are increasing;
  6. Studies have shown that people who use tobacco live 10-15 years less than those who have never used it.
